Afternoon Tea with the Kitchen Hero…

Afternoon Tea...

Last Monday afternoon a group of Irish Food Bloggers were invited by the ever-so-lovely Donal Skehan to Afternoon Tea at the Westbury Hotel in Dublin to launch his fabulous new book Kitchen Hero. We were treated to the newly launched “Kitchen Hero’s Tasty Tea” (designed by Donal and exclusive to the Westbury) which was a delicious selection of sandwiches, homemade scones, muffins and buns and some sweet treats (Peanut Butter Snicker Squares and Mint Chocolate Whoopie Pies).

I was accompanied by child #1 and was delighted to meet some fabulous foodies who’s blogs I read regularly and I have been chatting to via Twitter for the past year or so. The first to introduce to introduce herself (by her real name – cue blank stare..) was the very lovely Babaduck followed by Ken from Any Given Food amongst others. It was lovely being able to finally put faces to names and blogs.

We were all presented with a signed copy of Kitchen Hero – mine was amended slightly to include child #1’s name which she was thrilled about. I don’t think there’s anyone left that she hasn’t told! Just before we left I asked Donal if I could take a photo of her with him. He then asked his equally lovely girlfriend Sofie to take the picture so that I could be in it too. We couldn’t get over how friendly and down to earth he is and he took the time to stop and chat to everyone as if he’d known us forever. An onlooker would never guess that this guy has not one but two cookbooks under his belt AND a tv series due to air in just a matter of weeks!

Recipes for the goodies we sampled on the day are in the book, which delighted the child as she particularly enjoyed the Blueberry Scones and the Mint Chocolate Whoopie Pies I’ve been given instructions to recreat both as soon as possible. So far though, I’ve only managed a quick flick through the book, as soon as I get to go through it properly I’ll pop a review on the blog. My mum informed me on Tuesday that the book is, infact, better than Neven Maguire’s books (high praise indeed!) and she is hinting for her own copy…

The Kitchen Hero’s Tasty Tea in the Westbury Hotel is priced at €40 and includes a signed copy of Kitchen Hero by Donal Skehan. For more information on how to book click here.
