The two men in my house are absolutely MAD about tractors. Himself has two vintage tractors that he restored (believe me when I tell you they started out as complete wrecks!) and during the spring/summer months most of our Sundays are spent either at vintage shows or one of the many tractor runs that he takes part in.
Yesterday marked the first tractor run of the “season” for the vintage club that he is a member of. What normally happens on these tractor runs is that they choose a route (usually a few miles) and make pit-stops at one or two locations along the way for a cup of tea and a bite to eat – usually sandwiches or buns.
Being the good wife I am, I got up early yesterday morning and mixed up a few batches of cupcakes (minus the frosting this time I’m afraid!) and then it was onto Gingerbread Tractors. The recipe I used was from the lovely Jen over at Mum in The Madhouse who last year devised a Not So Gingery Gingerbread for her two sons who are not too keen on the taste of gingerbread. I must admit I’m not a huge fan of gingerbread either but this one is fab! I made this gingerbread last year for child #1’s Christmas bake sale in the shape of Christmas trees and it sold really well so this time I used a tractor shaped cookie cutter that I picked up on ebay a couple of months ago.
While I was making the tractors we worried that I might have made too many, this was not the case though as the children loved them and they disappeared pretty quickly. I’m told if there had been more, they would have been snapped up too. The club will be holding it’s annual Vintage & Fun day in a couple of months. Guess I’ll be taking out the recipe again…
